Schertz Police say preliminary findings indicate this accident may have been intentional.
SCHERTZ, Texas — Schertz Police say a man was killed in a major collision involving a train Monday afternoon.
Police said officers responded to the fatal collision on the 1000 block of FM 78 where a pedestrian reportedly entered the tracks as the train approached and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Guadalupe County officials.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, appears to be an adult male between the ages of 35 and 45 according to officials.
“Although this investigation is on-going our preliminary findings are indicating this accident may have been intentional,” said Schertz Police Chief Jim Lowery. “This is the second pedestrian accident in the past year that appears to be suicide.”
Schertz Parkway was temporarily closed following the incident but has since reopened.
Union Pacific said none of the train crew was injured and support is being offered to crew members operating the train at the time of the incident.
This is a developing story.
