SCUCISD to install metal detectors in district schools

This comes after two threats at Clemens High School in the last month.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas — Folks at Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD (SCUCISD) are tired of the threats and they’re doing something to make sure your kids are safe in that district.

SCUCISD sent a letter to parents this week telling them the district is putting in metal detectors at some of the schools.

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD says the first walk through metal detectors will be installed at Clemens High School on October 3, then be added at other high schools and alternative school.

This comes after two threats at Clemens High in the last month.

The first happened August 28 with a teenage boy saying he wanted to shoot up the school, and a second boy said he could provide the weapons.

Those two were taken to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center after the school received video evidence.

The second threat happened September 1 when a student messaged a classmate on Instagram threatening violence at Clemens High.

The classmate reported it, and after an investigation the school didn’t find a specific or valid threat directed at them.

Now the district says open gate walk through metal detectors will be placed at major entry points on each campus.

Everyone must go through them.

If the detector goes off, you’ll have to walk through the detector again, and trained staff will do another screening if needed.

The district says more information will be going out to families regarding prohibited items and how to prepare before the metal detectors are installed.

It’s all in an effort to keep your children safe.
