Search underway for cat spotted with jar stuck on its head east of downtown San Antonio

Animal Care Services officers are trying to safely capture a cat seen with a jar stuck on its head east of downtown, and neighbors can help.

SAN ANTONIO — Neighbors east of downtown San Antonio are keeping watch after a cat was spotted with a jar stuck on its head.

The sighting happened near East Houston Street and North Grimes Street, and the image quickly spread on social media, prompting concern from the community.

Now, City of San Antonio Animal Care Services says Animal Care Officers have been actively working since yesterday to safely locate and capture the cat.

Officers have been coordinating with neighbors in the area and have set a humane trap in hopes of bringing the animal to safety as quickly as possible. Once captured, the cat will be immediately evaluated by the city’s veterinary team.

Officials say the public can help — carefully.

If someone is able to safely contain the cat inside a garage or enclosed space, they are urged not to try to handle or touch the animal. Instead, call Animal Care Services immediately at (210) 207-4738 so officers can respond. Residents can also email ACSCustomerService@sanantonio.gov with information.

Animal Care Services wants to thank community members who have already stepped up to help.

Working together, officials say, gives this frightened cat the best chance at a safe rescue.
