Martha, a beloved beluga whale and original resident of SeaWorld San Antonio, has died at 40, leaving a legacy of inspiring conservation and care for marine life.
SAN ANTONIO — One of SeaWorld San Antonio’s beloved animals has recently died, according to a Facebook post by the marine-life park.
Martha, a beluga whale and an original resident since the park opened in 1988, was 40 years old. Officials did not provide further details about her passing.
“She was family, and her legacy lives on through all she inspired. Our dedicated animal care staff will continue to provide the highest level of care for the eight other belugas in our care,” SeaWorld San Antonio said in the post.
Officials said Martha inspired millions of guests and served as an ambassador for the beluga whale species. They also described her as an important social figure within her pod who worked with multiple generations of animal care specialists. During Martha’s tenure in the Alamo City, she has helped guests appreciate marine life and spread awareness about ocean conservation.
