Second arrest made in connection to horrific murder-kidnapping case in San Antonio

Police arrest Marcos Villegas for involvement in Antonio Sanchez’s murder after luring and kidnapping several victims.

SAN ANTONIO — A second arrest was made in the kidnapping and murder of a 44-year-old man in August.

21-year-old Marcos Villegas was arrested yesterday for his involvement in Antonio Sanchez’s death.

SAPD said Sanchez was lured to a home on Aug. 11, where he was shot and killed.

An affidavit states the 21-year-old helped kidnap several victims to lure Sanchez in. Now, Villegas faces two charges of kidnapping.

Court documents show two victims were held against their will on Aug. 11 at a home on the west side. Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the area when they heard multiple gunshots.

They rushed to the intersection of Coronado Avenue and Ceralvo Street to find 44-year-old Antonio Sanchez dead in the street.

It’s alleged Villegas held the victims hostage while threatening them with a gun. Using one of the hostages’ phones, documents state he and other suspects lured Sanchez to the home under false pretenses.

But Villegas left the house before Sanchez was murdered.

The other suspect in this case, Rafael Ricardo Jesus Almendarez, is accused of shooting and killing Sanchez and faces a capital murder charge.

Investigators tracked a vehicle seen outside the scene back to Villegas. Search warrants revealed his social media profile and photos matched the suspect description.

At last check, both suspects are still booked into the Bexar County jail.
