SAN MARCOS, Texas — A second suspect is now in custody after two people were killed early Saturday morning in San Marcos, Texas.

According to law enforcement, 19-year-old Avery Saul Bowman Jr. was arrested after he was wanted for capital murder in connection to the double homicide. He is accused of attempting to rob a victim before the shooting, which happened near Texas State University.

19-year-old Jermiah Jayden Tobias was arrested on Saturday night after the shooting, and he faces two counts of capital murder charges and one count of aggravated assault.

What led up to the shooting

On July 19, police responded to a call about shots fired at around 1:30 a.m. on San Antonio Street and Guadalupe Street in San Marcos.

Once on scene, they said two people were found dead. The victims were later identified as 24-year-old Anthony Barrera and 20-year-old bystander Alek Pacheco. A third victim was also injured.

Ahead of the shooting, law enforcement said a man was on a date with a woman who was allegedly already married, when the woman’s husband arrived.
