Second suspect charged with capital murder in Houston taco truck owner’s shooting death

He’s facing capital murder charges along with another suspect in a Houston taco truck owner’s death.

HOUSTON — A second suspect has been charged with capital murder in connection with the December shooting death of Houston taco truck owner Yaddua Barraza Hernandez, according to new court documents filed Friday.

Oscar Armando Roland Menjevar, who turned 20 years old Friday while in jail, was charged with capital murder. He joins Angel Adonis Saldivar-James as the second person accused in Hernandez’s killing. Surveillance video captured the two suspects in the moments before the fatal shooting at the food truck last month.

Court documents reveal both suspects were allegedly involved in a crime spree spanning just five days in early December. The pair now face three separate charges each, including capital murder and two counts of aggravated robbery, though not all charges are connected to the same incidents.

Andy Kahan, victim services director for Crime Stoppers Houston, reviewed the court documents and said the timeline of alleged crimes was striking.

“My first reaction was jeez these guys were on a major crime spree in less than a week, basically in a 5 day span.”

According to the documents, the first aggravated robbery occurred on December 2, followed by the capital murder on December 4 when Hernandez was killed. The suspects allegedly committed another aggravated robbery three days later on December 7.

“The first aggravated robbery is on 12/2. Then the capital murder in which sadly, somebody lost their life is on 12/4. And then they didn’t stop there. A few days later on 12/7.”

Both Menjevar and Saldivar-James have been denied bond. Menjevar is scheduled to make his first court appearance on the capital murder charge Tuesday.
