Security guard fatally shot after confronting two ‘suspicious people’ at northeast-side motel, police say

Police say the guard got into a verbal altercation with the suspects and then a woman believed to be the guard’s wife or girlfriend threw a rock at their vehicle.

SAN ANTONIO — A security guard at a northeast side motel was shot and killed after he confronted two suspicious people, police say.

San Antonio Police responded to the 6900 block of I-35 near Eisenhauer Road around 1:45 a.m. Saturday for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the security guard with a gunshot wound. They performed life-saving measures but were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

Police say the guard was checking on two suspicious people in the back of the motel when he got into an argument with them. The two suspects drove around to the front of the motel and the guard followed them. Police say one of the suspects pulled out a weapon and pointed it at the gurad. That’s when the a woman, believed to be the guard’s wife or girlfriend got involved and threw a rock at the suspect’s vehicle.

As soon as the woman threw the rock the suspect shot and killed the security guard, then drove away.

No description was provided about the suspects or the vehicle they were in.

Officials say the security guard is not associated with a company, but believed to be an in-house security guard who may have stayed at the hotel.

No other injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
