San Antonians traveling to or through North Texas can expect delays Friday afternoon and evening. Here’s what we know.
SAN ANTONIO — Multiple airports in the Dallas/Fort Worth area – including the flagship DFW Airport – are contending with an external “equipment issue” forcing delays for hundreds of Friday flights, as well as some cancellations.
The impact is trickling down to other cities, including San Antonio, where some outgoing flights to the DFW area have been cancelled, according to the San Antonio International Airport’s (SAT) flight board. Some that were scheduled to depart earlier in the afternoon have left, but it’s unknown if they’ll be able to land there or if they’ll be diverted.
Here’s what we know.
What’s happening in Dallas?
Hundreds of flights are delayed are DFW Airport, Dallas Love Field and other regional airports as the Federal Aviation Administration looks into telephone equipment issues affecting the agency’s processes.
According to our sister station WFAA, officials with the FAA said shortly before 3 p.m. Friday that the issue isn’t impacting its equipment specifically, but it’s “working with the telephone company to determine the cause.”
How many flights are impacted?
According to FlightAware, as of 4:40 p.m. more than 660 flights in and out of DFW Airport have been delayed, and at least 187 outright cancelled. Another 165 delays were reported at Dallas Love Field.
What about San Antonio?
FlightAware says that, so far, just a handful of flights heading to or coming in from the Alamo City were affected. That includes more than 15 flights between San Antonio and either DFW Airport or Dallas Love Field.
SAT’s live flight board says two afternoon flights scheduled to leave for Dallas after 4 p.m. are canceled, another three are delayed and one is listed as on time. Most Saturday at flights are listed as departing on time at this point.
