Segment 1 of Loop 1604 North Expansion reaches 90% completion, TxDOT says

The first segment of the project is on track for completion by late summer.

SAN ANTONIO — At least some of the headaches caused by construction on Loop 1604 is coming to an end this summer, according to TxDOT.

The Loop 1604 North Expansion is marking a major milestone as officials say the first segment has reached 90% completion and is entering its final months.

Segment 1, which is from SH 16 to I-10, is said to be on schedule to be complete by late summer 2025.

“The remaining work will focus on paving operations and completing the Leon Creek frontage road bridge,” says TxDOT. “Once complete, this segment will feature expanded main lanes, safer access points, and improved frontage roads.”

This is just one of the steps towards progress in the expansion project.

The second flyover ramp at the I-10 interchange will also open by early summer. More milestones include the opening of a third flyover ramp, turnaround bridges, and access ramps, according to TxDOT.

TxDOT says, “drivers are expected to experience smoother commutes and easier connections as they travel across the corridor.”
