SEGUIN, Texas — A Seguin man is behind bars after police say he displayed a firearm during a shoplifting incident at a local Walmart.
According to the Seguin Police Department, the incident happened January 31 around 10:55 p.m. when a male suspect entered the store and left with multiple items without paying.
Police say a witness attempted to intervene, at which point the suspect allegedly displayed a firearm in a threatening manner before fleeing the scene prior to officers arriving.
Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division conducted follow-up interviews and worked alongside patrol officers to identify the suspect as 31-year-old Jose Angel Martinez of Seguin.
On February 13, patrol officers located and arrested Martinez on an aggravated robbery warrant issued by 25th Judicial District Judge William D. Old III.
Martinez was transported to the Guadalupe County Jail and booked on a $150,000 bond.
Seguin police thanked witnesses and officers for their cooperation in helping bring the case to what they described as a safe resolution.
