Seguin PD: 5 arrested in vehicle theft, burglary spree spanning multiple cities near San Antonio

Police said three juveniles and two adults were working together in what investigators described as a string of vehicle burglaries and thefts across the area.

SEGUIN, Texas — Five people have been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle thefts and burglaries spanning multiple cities, including Seguin, Schertz and San Antonio, according to the Seguin Police Department.

Police said three juveniles and two adults were working together in what investigators described as a string of vehicle burglaries and thefts across the area.

Seguin police first responded Thursday, February 12 to four vehicle burglaries, including one involving a Seguin police vehicle and another affiliated with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, according to investigators. Authorities said several items were stolen, including an off-duty weapon.

While officers were responding to those burglaries, additional reports came in regarding other stolen and abandoned vehicles, police said.

In total, three vehicles were reported stolen from Seguin and one from Schertz, according to police. Officials said two of the stolen vehicles were found later that same morning, while the other two were located using a license plate recognition system. One of the vehicles was found in New Braunfels.

With assistance from the New Braunfels Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, officers arrested the three juveniles and two adults after they were reportedly caught breaking into additional vehicles, police said.

Investigators later conducted follow-up interviews with those arrested and learned that additional stolen vehicles connected to the case were tied to San Antonio police and Schertz.

The case remains an active investigation, according to Seguin police. Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles, remove valuables and report suspicious activity.
