Residents can have up to two goats in San Antonio.
GoatedSan Antonio is known for its goats, like San Antonio Spurs legends Tim Duncan, Manu Ginóbili, David Robinson, and Tony Parker. However, the city isn’t known for goats (the animals) roaming around neighborhoods. Most recently, the city’s Animal Care Services is investigating loose goats on San Antonio’s Eastside.
Reddit user VastEmergency1000 posted about loose goats in the San Antonio subReddit around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14. The user posted a picture of about six goats eating the grass near the River City Care Center at 921 Nolan St., San Antonio, TX 78202.
“Somebody get their goats,” the user wrote. “They’re hanging out at the River City Care Center.”

Lisa Norwood, the public relations and outreach manager for the city’s Animal Care Services, told MySA the department has had reports in mid-January of goats on Nolan, in the same area as the care center, wreaking havoc on the shrubbery. The officer who made the scene a month ago was unable to find any rogue rogue ruminants.

ACS sent an officer to the area around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The officers were able to herd the group of goats into a backyard where they had escaped off Burnet Street, according to Norwood. ACS is waiting to talk to the livestock owner about their goats’ extracurricular activities.
ACS said residents can have up to two goats in San Antonio, and more with an approved excess animal permit. Like dogs, goats are not allowed to roam and their owner can face citations and stiff fines, plus impoundment fees, Norwood said.
