Several suspects detained in possible smuggling attempt in southwest San Antonio

SAPD say witnesses called to report seeing around a dozen people jump out of an 18-wheeler truck on Quintana Road Tuesday.

SAN ANTONIO — Several people were detained after witnesses say they were seen jumping out of an 18-wheeler truck on the southwest side of town, then try to run away in what officials say was a possible human smuggling attempt.

This happened Tuesday near the site of the country’s most deadly human smuggling event on Quintana road back in 2022.

San Antonio Police told us that witnesses called to tell them they saw a dozen or more people jump out of a truck on the corner of Quintana Road and Plumnear Road, before running in different directions.

Police say some ran into a mobile home park in the area, then started getting into different vehicles.

Between five and seven people were found as of 7:30 p.m., including those believed to have been driving the tractor-trailer.

It’s unclear at this point what charges, if any, police are considering at this time.

Police were continuing to search the area, going in and out of the mobile home park and also searching by air in a helicopter.

Officials have confirmed that no fatalities or injuries have been reported.

Homeland Security is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

This is still a developing story.
