
Severe flooding has forced several closures in San Antonio after heavy rains blanketed the region, causing power outages, high-water rescues and at least four fatalities on Thursday, June 12.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the flash flood warning through 1:45 p.m. From the overnight thunderstorm, 3 to 8 inches of rain have fallen in the region, according to NWS. An additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected as thunderstorms are likely to continue. Officials are warning there is potential for a “dangerous and life-threatening situation.”
Here’s what has closed so far in San Antonio:
There are over 42 road closures due to water over the roadways as of 11:30 a.m., according to a map of road closures from the San Antonio Public Works Department.
Some of the road closures include Mauermann Rd from S Zarzamora to Pleasanton Road; Leslie Road from Braun Road; Lookout Road from Judson Road to Topperwein Road; Old Grisson Road from Timber Path to Culebra Road and Bitters Road from Jones Maltsberger Road.
The San Antonio River Authority (SARA) has closed Camino Coahuilteca and River Front Parkway due to high water, according to a Facebook post on Thursday, June 12. SARA urged everyone to use extreme caution on all trails and low water crossings throughout its park system.
SARA stated some areas remain flooded, while others may have debris or mud. Crews are actively working to clear and reopen affected areas as soon as it is safe to do so, SARA added.
Bexar County has closed the following parks due to flooding: Rodriguez Park, Comanche 1 and 3, Covington Park, Pletz Park and Woodlake Park.
