Wise County Judge J.D. Clark says the storm caused significant structural damage across multiple neighborhoods and at least 20 families displaced.

RUNAWAY BAY, Texas — First responders from across North Texas have gathered in Runaway Bay Saturday night after a severe thunderstorm left one person dead, injured many others and displaced about 20 families.

Wise County Judge J.D. Clark told WFAA multiple neighborhoods in Runaway Bay suffered heavy structural damage, displacing multiple families and injuring others.

“Texas weather, it can devastate in an instant, and unfortunately we’ve seen that here in Runaway Bay tonight,” Clark said. “Please pray for the Runaway Bay community. Pray for those that are suffering a loss tonight.”

The victim who was killed in the storm hasn’t yet been identified.

Clark said American Red Cross is inbound to help families displaced by the storm.

“The thing we’re focused on right now is getting to people and helping people,” Clark said. “If you can avoid the Runaway Bay area tonight, please do that for your own safety and the safety of the first responders.”

Clark said a reunification center has been set up for residents in Runaway Bay at 513 Port O Call Drive.

The thunderstorm on Saturday night produced wind gusts up to 60 mph and golf ball-sized hail across Wise, Jack and Parker counties.
