Shakeup expected in AP Top 25 after two of nation’s top 10 teams lose

Texas fell to Georgia on Saturday night. The Horns were one of two top 10 teams that lost, meaning we’ll see a shakeup when the new rankings are released.

HOUSTON — Expect another shakeup in the AP college football poll when the new rankings come out.

The No. 1 Texas Longhorns suffered their first defeat of the season, a 30-15 setback to the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in Austin Saturday night.

That opens the door for a new No. 1. The big question now is how far Texas will drop after the home loss and how high Georgia will rise.

We’ll find out today at around 1 p.m. Houston time when the new AP poll is released.  Oregon, the No. 2 team, will likely jump to the top spot. They shut out Purdue Friday night, just days after their impressive win over Ohio State. Unbeaten Penn State was idle. The Nittany Lions are poised to move up, as well, from their No. 3 ranking.  Ohio State has one loss, but came into the weekend as the No. 4 team in the land followed by Georgia.

Miami entered the weekend No. 6 with a perfect record. They knocked off Louisville in a 52-45 shootout. They were ahead of Alabama. The Crimson Tide will drop from their No. 7 spot after falling 24-17 to Tennessee Saturday.

Meanwhile, Texas A&M may or may not move up from their spot at No. 14 after beating Mississippi State by 10 Saturday.

What time do the AP college football rankings come out?

When do the College Football Playoff rankings come out?

While the AP poll is the rankings during much of the season, it’s the CFP rankings will determine which teams play for a national championship this season. The first ranking of the CFP comes out on Nov. 5.  The College Football Playoff came into existence in 2014, but until this season, had only included the top four teams. This year, the CFP will expand to 12 teams. Here’s how it will work.
