Less than 40 minutes before the show was set to kick off, fans waiting in line heard the news it had been postponed to an unknown date.
SAN ANTONIO — Shakira fans waiting to be let inside the Alamodome for Friday’s concert headlined by the Colombian superstar instead received news that the show won’t go on as planned.
The Alamodome shared the update on its Facebook page shortly before 7 p.m., less than 40 minutes before the highly anticipated show was set to begin. Venue officials chalked the development up to “structural issues,” but haven’t clarified further.
“All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date once announced,” the Facebook post read. “More information will be emailed to ticketholders directly when available.”
The venue’s update was met with frustration by fans, with one person decrying them for the late announcement, saying: “You had more than enough time to tell us, instead of 30 min before!!”
“40 minutes before the concert and we’re just finding out?! That’s not acceptable!” wrote another fan.
The Alamodome had been charging $60 for parking at its lots for the show. Multiple fans waiting in line said they still found themselves outside in the summer heat long after 5:30 p.m., when doors were scheduled to open.
In April, the guitarist Santana canceled his downtown show at the Majestic shortly before showtime, citing a medical issue that required a brief hospitalization.
This is a developing story.
