HOUSTON — The daughter of a college football coach with Houston ties is among the children still missing after the catastrophic July 4th flood in the Texas Hill Country.
Wade Lytal, the offensive coordinator at Trinity University in San Antonio, said Kellyanne Lytal was at Camp Mystic when floodwaters roared through early Friday morning.
“Asking for all prayers for a miracle for my baby girl, Kellyanne. She is still one of the Mystic Campers who is unaccounted for,” Lytal shared on X on Sunday.
On Monday, Camp Mystic said at least 27 campers and counselors were among the 93 people killed in the devastating flooding in Central Texas. Eleven girls were still missing from the Christian girls’ camp in Hunt, Texas, along the Guadalupe River.
There was little warning before the river rose 26 feet in 45 minutes while most of the victims were sleeping.
Lytal described his daughter as “absolutely fearless” and shared a sweet video of her singing at a Christmas pageant.
“I’ll never forget when she told me she had a lead solo in the Christmas Pageant. She is absolutely fearless,” he wrote.
Lytal played football and coached track and field at Memorial High School in Houston from 2016 to 2018.
He is in his sixth season at Trinity, where he was a standout offensive guard and tackle for the Tigers from 2005-2008. He’s credited with helping coach the team to two straight undefeated seasons in 2021 and 2022.
Along with Kellyanne, Coach Lytal and his wife, Malorie, have a second daughter named Emmalynn.
