‘She was a good woman’ | Fatal hit-and-run caught on camera at Medical Center gas station, police now searching for driver

“A lady comes to me and says that the woman (in) the backside, she passed out. So I said, just let’s go have a look,” said the store clerk.

SAN ANTONIO — Newly obtained surveillance footage shows a fatal hit-and-run that occurred overnight Sunday at a gas station in San Antonio’s Medical Center area.

The video, provided exclusively to KENS 5, captures the moments before a woman was struck by a silver SUV in the parking lot of a Shell station near the intersection of Babcock and Wurzbach Road. For sensitivity, KENS 5 has paused the footage before the moment of impact.

According to police, the driver of the SUV fled the scene after hitting the victim. Investigators are now searching for the driver, who they believe to be a woman operating a 2010 Nissan Murano.

Store surveillance shows the woman being struck as the SUV drives through the parking lot. The vehicle circles back, passes the victim again, then a second video appears to show the driver of a silver SUV attempt to leave the gas station, but the driver decided to drive back around and park at a gas pump.

The female driver then steps out of the SUV and then goes to check on the victim. She then comes back into view. The video shows her walking up to the clerk, who was standing outside the store.

The clerk tells KENS 5 that the woman did not admit to hitting anyone.

“A lady comes to me and says that the woman [in] the backside passed out,” the clerk said. “So I said, let’s just have a look.”

The video shows the driver and the clerk walking behind the store, where the victim was lying on the ground.

“When I saw her, she was lying really unconscious. She was breathing at that time. I had to call 911,” he added.

The clerk said the driver left quickly after alerting him, telling him she had to go.

“The lady quickly she left, because I don’t know what happened, she said that ‘I had to go,’ so she left,” he added.

Police arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m. and found the woman unconscious. EMS pronounced her dead shortly afterward.

Witnesses were able to tell investigators about the SUV driving through the parking lot and hitting the woman.

They told police the female driver then took off without stopping to help her.

The victim has not been identified, but the clerk described her as a regular customer, and said she was a good woman.

“I felt very pity, and felt hard,” he said. “When I left, I couldn’t sleep.”

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspected driver to contact police. Police say they are looking for a female driver of a 2010 Nissan Murano.

This remains an active investigation.
