Crime Stoppers is now offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
SAN ANTONIO — The family of a 57-year-old woman struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on the city’s northwest side is grieving their loss while pleading for the driver to come forward.
Mary Jane Acosta was hit just before 6 a.m. Feb. 18 while crossing Bandera Road near West Broadview Drive, close to the restaurant where she worked, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police said the driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved is a light-colored 2008 to 2011 Ford Focus. Authorities said the car is likely to have damage to the front right headlight and windshield and may be missing a windshield wiper.
On what would have been Acosta’s 58th birthday, her family gathered at the crash site with flowers and balloons — not to celebrate, but to remember.
“It hurts a lot. We are sad. We are grieving,” her son Adam Rodriguez said.
Acosta’s children described her as a loving mother with a generous spirit who was always willing to help others.
“She was loved and she loved a lot, so she was a good mother,” her daughter Amber Acosta said.
As they plan her funeral, the family has started a GoFundMe to help cover burial expenses and say they want to lay her to rest with dignity. They are also urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
“If there’s any neighbors that are suspicious of any damage to a vehicle or if they notice anything out of the ordinary, we just want somebody to come clean,” Rodriguez said. “This hurts the whole family — everybody that knew and loved her.”
The local Crime Stoppers program is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters can remain anonymous, officials said.
