SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are searching for two suspects accused of robbing a northwest-side convenience store and threatening to shoot and kill a clerk during the incident, authorities said.
The robbery occurred just after 3 p.m. on March 27 at the Pit Stop Food Mart No. 23 in the 1200 block of Babcock Road near Hillcrest, according to police.
The store’s owner, who declined to be identified publicly for safety reasons, said one of the men initially entered the store and stole beer.
The clerk locked the door to prevent the theft, but the suspect was accompanied by another man.
When the clerk refused to open the door, one of the suspects became aggressive and began kicking it, the owner said.
Fearing costly damage, the clerk opened the door and allowed the men to leave. However, the suspects later returned and took more beer, the owner said.
When the clerk attempted to stop them during the second encounter, one of the men allegedly threatened her life.
“He said he would come back and shoot her,” the owner said. “She was really scared.”
The clerk immediately called the owner and asked him to come to the store because she feared for her safety. Police were then contacted.
Authorities have released photos of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.
The store owner said the incident highlights the dangers retail workers face, noting that similar thefts have escalated into violence.
“People have been shot over small things like beer or cigarettes,” the owner said. “Employees shouldn’t have to be terrified.”
