A suspect who was reportedly driving recklessly led law enforcement on a chase that ended with that driver’s death.

BAYTOWN, Texas — A suspect died Friday night after crashing into another vehicle during a high-speed chase involving Baytown Police and Chambers County deputies, according to Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.

It happened around 8 p.m. on Oct. 10. Sheriff Hawthorne said Baytown Police were chasing the the driver northbound on State Highway 146 from Harris County into Chambers County when deputies joined the chase.  Baytown police said the chase started because the person behind the wheel of a BMW was driving recklessly.

Less than a mile after deputies joined the chase, the suspect crashed into another vehicle on Highway 146 near Crystal Boulevard and was ejected. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man and woman in the vehicle the suspect hit were injured. Sheriff Hawthorne said their injuries were non-life-threatening, and they were taken to a nearby hospital.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and our local partners,” Hawthorne said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the two occupants involved in this tragic event, and we are grateful their injuries were not more severe.”

At this point, we don’t know the identity of the suspect. The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation.
