Shooting near vacant Lone Star Brewery reignites safety concerns in San Antonio neighborhood

A vacant building, notorious for frequent incidents, becomes a crime scene again as a man is shot nearby.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s a vacant building, but it’s making headlines again — this time for a shooting.

Tuesday night just before 9 p.m., a man was taken to the hospital after police say he was shot near the old Lone Star Brewery off Lone Star Boulevard.

The man who was shot is expected to be okay, but no one should be in this building, police say, yet it continues to be an issue with people going in and out.

Almost 50 calls in the last year were made to SAPD, as noted in their incident log from 2025 for the 600 block of Lone Star Boulevard.

The call that tops the list: reports for a suspicious person.

In the last year, the San Antonio Fire Department has responded to nine fires and two EMS-related calls.

The latest call was for a 34-year-old man shot and found near the property on Tuesday night around 8:40 p.m.

EMS took the man to the hospital, but officials tell KENS 5 he was uncooperative and didn’t help identify a suspect.

The last known developer that was supposed to buy this property, as we reported in December, was New Braunfels-based “Southstar,” according to councilmember Terri Castillo.

KENS 5 reached out to Southstar on where plans stand to get anything done with the structure.

They have yet to respond.

The shooting from Tuesday remains under investigation.
