SILSBEE, Texas — The Silsbee Police Department announced the arrests of two men in connection with a 2021 homicide and shooting that left one man dead and another injured.
Kyriq Juarez Wyatt, 23, and Bruce Wayne Newton Jr., 26, were taken into custody Saturday on Silsbee Police Department warrants and booked into the Hardin County Jail. Both men are charged with murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity, according to police.
The charges stem from a June 2, 2021 incident in which officers responded to two related crime scenes. Police said they found Jeremiah Kawane Grant dead from multiple gunshot wounds on Martin Luther King Drive between South 12th Street and Pine Street.
A second victim, Jacob Matthew Decuir, was located with a gunshot wound at the Buzzy Bee/Valero station on U.S. 96 South. He survived his wounds.
Following a multi-year investigation, police said evidence shows Grant, Wyatt and Newton coordinated an aggravated robbery targeting individuals who had traveled to Silsbee for a narcotics transaction. During the encounter, gunfire broke out, leaving Decuir wounded and Grant fatally injured.
The department’s Special Assignment Unit led the investigation, which included executing search warrants, reviewing surveillance and body camera footage, analyzing communications records and conducting numerous interviews.
Investigators had previously obtained warrants for Decuir, Bryce Joseph Pfeffer and Emily Madison Ranolls for their alleged roles in the incident. The arrests of Wyatt and Newton mark the latest development in the case.
“This case has demanded meticulous work and persistence,” the department stated in a news release. “The charges announced today are the product of careful evidence review, sworn statements, digital forensics and corroborating surveillance. Today’s arrests reflect our commitment to see complex cases through to the end.”
