32-year-old Richard Belmonte tragically died when a drunk wrong-way driver hit him along Highway 90 Westbound & Southwest Loop 410.
SAN ANTONIO — The family of Richard Belmonte says they are broken after the sudden loss of the father of four including his unborn child. His sister Candice Mossburg says this is a senseless tragedy.
“My family is broken, that’s why they can’t be here today,” she said. “As you can imagine my mother’s grief is just her own right now where she is just trying to navigate the loss of her son – needless loss of her son.”
For Mossburg, each day is a challenge – especially for her sister in law – Richard’s wife, Shawna – who has a baby on the way.
“I need people to know that my brother was just a family man,” Mossburg said. “And I think that sometimes everybody just talks about what a great guy somebody was or you tend to just believe the positives. No, my brother actually lived and breathed that in his lifetime.”
Belmonte tragically died when a drunk wrong way driver hit him – just after 5am along Hwy 90 west bound & SW Loop 410 back on January 26.
Police say callers reported a black pickup truck driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of highway 90. Shortly after, a second caller reported a crash between that pickup and a grey SUV. Belmonte and the driver who police say caused the wreck were both pronounced dead at the scene.
“My brother was killed. I gotta help my family right now. And they just are not strong enough to be able to stand here and do an interview like this.”
She and others are doing what they can to help the family with finances through a GoFundMe. Mossburg says her brother was the primary breadwinner.
“He was such a beautiful part of this family and now we are trying to find a way to go on without him, but to keep the normalcy for the kids,” she said.
