Keystone Resort opened Saturday afternoon, becoming the first ski area in North America to do so. Colorado’s runner-up, Arapahoe Basin, will open Sunday morning.
COLORADO, USA — Listen up, winter lovers: Colorado’s ski season is officially here!
Keystone Resort announced it is opening for the season on Saturday afternoon, saying they’re the first ski area in North America to do so.
Skiers and snowboarders with an Epic Pass can take advantage of the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails between 3-6 p.m.
Keystone Resort’s opening day celebrations — which will feature a live DJ, beers and hot dogs — will continue through Sunday, when the resort will begin operating on its regular schedule, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Night skiing until 7 p.m. will be offered on some Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, starting this Thanksgiving.
“We’re thrilled to kick off the season here at Keystone with over two miles of skiing and riding,” said Keystone Resort Vice President and General Manager Shannon Buhler. “We know how much this moment means to our employees and community, and our team has poured their hearts into creating an incredible early opening celebration. We’re just excited to be back on snow!”
Visit the Keystone Resort website for additional details about opening day and the rest of the season.
Coming in second place for the Colorado ski area with the earliest opening date, Arapahoe Basin announced it will open for the season on Sunday morning.
The A-Basin chairlifts are set to be up and running by 8:30 a.m. Starting this weekend, the lifts will operate until 4 p.m. every day of the week.
“This season is an opportunity for us to show everyone who A-Basin is,” said Arapahoe Basin President & COO Alan Henceroth. “For folks with the Ikon Pass, this may be your first time visiting us. For our returning community, we’d like to reintroduce ourselves – we’re the same A-Basin you know and love, only maybe even a little better.”
Those with an Ikon Pass who decide to take advantage of A-Basin’s opening day will enjoy runs down the High Noon slope, as well as giveaways, live music and donuts.
