Skier found dead at Winter Park in Colorado

Winter Park police said the skier was found near the Mary Jane ski run after a search.

WINTER PARK, Colo. — A skier was found dead after going missing at Winter Park Resort.

According to a release Wednesday from the Fraser Winter Park Police Department, officers were notified of an overdue skier at Winter Park Resort at around 4:48 p.m. on Jan. 26.

Officers met with a person who said her boyfriend had failed to show up to take the ski train back to Denver, the release said. She said her last contact with him was at around 12:30 p.m.

An emergency phone ping was conducted, police said, and Winter Park Ski Patrol members responded to perform a ground search for the skier. When they couldn’t find him, a more detailed phone ping was used that led to finding him partially buried in snow in a wooded area adjacent to the Mary Jane ski run.

Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, the release said, and the skier was pronounced dead just before 8 p.m.

The Grand County Coroner’s Office will release his identity and the cause and manner of his death.
