A heartbreaking loss to the Bengals Monday night dampened their already low odds to make the postseason, but are they completely out yet?
DALLAS — Well, this season for the Dallas Cowboys hasn’t gone the way most fans expected — and injuries sure haven’t helped.
On Monday night, the Cowboys’ two-game win streak ended in a heartbreaking loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at home, further dampening their hopes of making it into the playoffs. However, they’re not out of contention just yet.
Yes, you read that correctly.
According to The Athletic’s playoff projections after Week 14, the Dallas Cowboys still have a very slim chance of reaching the postseason — less than 1%.
So, while not eliminated from contention, it would take nothing short of a miracle for Dallas to see the playoffs as they currently sit behind six teams in the hunt for the NFC wild-card spot, including division rival Washington.
The Cowboys have four games remaining on their schedule, and their chances of winning those matchups don’t offer much reassurance for fans.
According to The Athletic’s projections, here are the Cowboys’ odds of winning in their last four games:
- Sunday, Dec. 15 | at Carolina Panthers: 51% chance to win
- Sunday, Dec. 22 | vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 41% chance to win
- Sunday, Dec. 29 | at Philidelphia Eagles: 21% chance to win
- Sunday, Jan. 5 | vs. Washington Commanders: 39% chance to win
Even if the Cowboys were able to win every single one of their remaining games, it would still take a plethora of additional outcomes to get them in.
In reality, this season is over in terms of hopes of bringing home any hardware. Fans and players will still want to see the team go out and compete, but at the end of the day, is it worth it? At this point, there is little room for optimism. However, statistically, there’s still a chance.
