Sochan says Popovich once threw him out of practice; Wembanyama receives another award

Jeremy Sochan shared a funny moment with Gregg Popovich, revealing he was once tossed from practice.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs‘ Jeremy Sochan joined the “HoopsFix” show to talk about his time in the NBA, the media, his NBA goals, and more.

It was a great interview, where he shared a funny moment he had with former Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and getting tossed from practice.

“I think in one practice, he saw me and he thought I could give more effort. For him, it’s a way to show and teach you a lesson. He just told me to get out,” Sochan said.

Sochan explains he did not want to argue back, knowing Pop was not in the mood and just walked away.

“I was like OK this one is not one where I’ll say something. I will just walk to the locker room.”

Pop was known for being tough on all players from the top, like Tim Duncan, all the way down to the last man on the bench.

He treated all his players equally, and that mindset allowed him to get the best out of them.

WEMBY GETS ANOTHER AWARD

Congratulations to Victor Wembanyama, who was presented with the 2024-25 NBA Blocks title award presented to him by new head coach Mitch Johnson.

Wemby played enough games (46 or more per NBA rules) to qualify, which meant he was set to take home the award.

He led the league in blocks last season, finishing with a total of 176 blocks in 46 games. He averaged 3.8 blocks per game, a higher average than his rookie season average of 3.6. It was also his second consecutive title as the league’s block leader.
