Sophia needs a human who’s ready, willing and able to harness her puppy energy | Forgotten Friends

She did get adopted once, but was brought back because she got out of their yard and they felt she wasn’t going to be a good fit for them after all.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is Sophia, an around eight-month-old Terrier mix that was brought to the Humane Society in New Braunfels (HSNBA) back in September. She did get adopted once, but was brought back because she got out of their yard and they felt she wasn’t going to be a good fit for them after all.

Sophia gets along with other dogs and does really well when she gets taken on walks with the pack. She’s not a fan of cats though. Sophia has a gorgeous, brindle coat and soulful brown eyes.

She loves kids but really needs to work on her manners when she’s on a leash.

“She is high energy and needs work on her leash manners, but is eager to please and can fit in well with anyone ready to give a larger puppy guidance,” said shelter staff.

She loves to chase after sticks and getting petted. She’s eager to please and would benefit from having a person who will be ready, willing and able to give her guidance so that she can outgrow her puppy behaviors.

“She just needs a family to work with her on being the best dog she can be,” said shelter staff. “She is a little more shy in the shelter than when she’s in a home.”

She’s healthy, current on all of her vaccinations and has already been spayed.

“She can be a fence jumper, and a little mouthy when she’s bored,” said shelter staff. “A tired dog is a well-behaved and happy dog, so keeping her mentally and physically stimulated is best for this pup.”

It gives the dogs something fun to do while they are stuck inside due to the cold. Just make sure it doesn’t have xylitol in it which is toxic to dogs!

As with all shelters, cash is always appreciated, since money comes in handy to pay the veterinary bills associated with saving all the animals in need.
