South Texas Trail Riders mourning loss of longtime wagon boss

Pat Doty died early Sunday before the riders let Beeville.

BEEVILLE, Texas — The South Texas Trail Riders hit the road with heavier hearts on Monday after losing a longtime wagon boss and friend.

The group posted on Facebook that longtime wagon boss Pat Doty passed away on Sunday. The group said he passed peacefully early Sunday morning before the trail riders left from Beeville.

KENS 5’s Barry Davis hit the trail last year with Pat in what was his 53rd trail ride up to San Antonio and he said he wasn’t going to let age stop him.

The group, which are still making their way to San Antonio for the rodeo, says arrangements for Doty will be announced soon.
