Spirit, therapy dog who supported 911 dispatchers in Phoenix, passes away

Beloved therapy dog Spirit dies after years of service to the Phoenix Police Department’s Communications Bureau.

PHOENIX, Arizona — The Phoenix Police Department 911 community is mourning the loss of Spirit, the therapy dog. Spirit served their 911 operators and dispatchers for the past six years.

Spirit was 10 years old, and his gentle presence brought comfort, calm and connection to the team during their most difficult moments. Spirit would occasionally visit the communication center to offer comfort to those who answered the calls that no one else could.

Spirit lost a battle with lymphoma. “He is already deeply missed,” officials said.
