SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs snapped their two-game home losing skid with a win against the Sacramento Kings, 123-110. De’Aaron Fox led the team with 28 points (season high) and 11 assists.
Stephon Castle recorded four points before exiting the game with a hip injury. Luke Kornet added 13 and 11 rebounds, and Keldon Johnson finished with 14. Devin Vassell scored 16 and Julian Champagnie had 12. Harrison Barnes recorded 20 points.
Victor Wembanyama did not play due to a calf injury.
The Spurs are 9-4 and will next host the Grizzlies on Tuesday night.
Here’s a sample of what the Spurs and Warriors said after the game.
Mitch Johnson:
“There are obviously some lineups that we haven’t had a lot of time and continuity with, and we had some guys play a few more minutes than they had played previously, and needed some guys that have been playing to take on some different roles. I thought everybody stepped up for the most part, still want to be more consistent at times.”
“I think with us it’s just always been about our depth. I think we talked about that at the beginning of the season. Obviously, we talked about that going into tonight. The contributions from Kelly (Olynyk), Jeremy (Sochan), Julian (Champagnie), Keldon (Johnson) really coming in there. Obviously, Luke (Kornet) stepping up, playing a huge role in our defense tonight. Everyone just finding that time throughout the season, everyone’s going to have to win games for us and so it was great to see everyone step up as a collective.”
“I think my game’s always just kind of been trying to help make the game easier for everyone and I think we still have a long way to go in terms of growing that. But yeah, I really just want to help set the table for guys and put them in spots to be effective.”
“We just lost two games in a row. So you want to come out, you want to hit first and just try to take command of the game knowing that your game plan changes whenever you don’t have Vic (Wembanyama) out there one and then you come back in half and no Steph’s (Castle) not playing now. So I think we responded well to both of those things happening.”
