Here’s what coach Mitch Johnson, De’Aaron Fox and the Spurs had to say after the home win over the Pelicans.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs won their second-straight game with a home win over the New Orleans Pelicans, 126-119. In his return to the court, De’Aaron Fox led the team with 24 points and three assists.
Julian Champagnie had 14 points, and Victor Wembanyama had 18 points and 18 rebounds. Devin Vassell added 16, Keldon Johnson finished with 12, and Stephon Castle added 14 and 14 assists. Jeremy Sochan had 10.
The Spurs are 7-2 and will next visit the Bulls on Monday night.
Here’s a sample of what the Spurs said after the game.
Mitch Johnson:
“I thought we’ve done a good job at responding to adversity or when things are going well. Our competitive response has been pretty good throughout the year. I think we have to continue to make sure that we’re not helping dig our own hole at times, but I do think that we have done a good job at responding when necessary.”
“I feel like you can play with the same intensity and also play smart. I mean, I feel it just comes down to making the right play. Making the right read. Sometimes I try to be too aggressive, try to make the spectacular play, but sometimes the spectacular play is the easy one.”
“There’s definitely rust. I mean I haven’t played a game since March and then I actually didn’t play full court all summer. So my first time really playing full court was two weeks ago. I think it was the first time we did it. So there’s definitely rust there, but I’m happy to come out here and help my team win.”
