Spurs announce ‘Champions for Change’ grant recipients

Four local nonprofits were selected as this year’s Champions for Change.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs announced the distribution of nearly $100,000 in grant funding to local nonprofit organizations recognized for their extraordinary community impact via the “Champions for Change” endeavor.

Through funds raised at the Champions for Change event, four local nonprofits were selected as this year’s Champions for Change: Gardopia Gardens, San Antonio Food Bank, Merced Housing Texas and Holy Redeemer Food Pantry.

“Our community continues to show what’s possible when compassion meets action,” said Patricia Mejia, Chief Impact and Inclusion Officer at SS&E, in a release. “Champions for Change is a reflection of San Antonio’s spirit, people from every corner of our city coming together to lift one another and build a future rooted in unity and belonging.”

According to the Spurs, the grant recipients were chosen through a collaborative process with player input and Spurs Give leadership. Spurs players helped identify areas of community need that they’re personally passionate about, such as food security, youth wellness and affordable housing.
