The San Antonio Spurs see an early rise in local game viewership.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs started the season undefeated at 5-0, bringing highlight-worthy moments, thrilling games (an overtime win over the Pelicans), and, of course, Victor Wembanyama and his incredible play.
Indeed, the Spurs are shaping up to be a fun team to watch, and the early television numbers are proving it.
Fans are tuning in to watch the Silver and Black when the season started. Looking at the first five Spurs broadcasts of the season, household viewership over the first five locally broadcasted games is up 76% increase over the first five locally broadcasted games last year.
The Spurs-Pelicans game on Nov. 24 on KENS 5 TV was the most-viewed locally broadcast regular-season game since March 28, 2019.
The Spurs-Heat game on Nov. 30 on FanDuel Sports Southwest was the most-viewed game on FanDuel Sports Southwest since January 2, 2020.
To further emphasize how much the Spurs playing on television is becoming more of the norm and a game to draw in viewers, the NBA announced a broadcast change for the Nov. 18 San Antonio Spurs home game against the Memphis Grizzlies, which will now be featured on NBC/Peacock.
Beyond television ratings, on NBA social media, Wembanyama leads all players with 276 million video views this season.
This is evidence of how much the Spurs are considered a team to watch, both locally and nationally.
With the team being more competitive this year, exciting players to see in action, and Wembanyama’s draw, you can expect these ratings to continue to climb.
