Spurs couldn’t complete late rally in nail-biting loss to Heat, 120-117

The newest addition to the Silver and Black Chris Paul ended the game with 13 points, which is the most he’s scored since joining the team.

MIAMI — The San Antonio Spurs are now 2-2 in the preseason following a nail-biting loss the the Miami Heat, 120-117.

The first quarter gave us a beautiful look at the endless possibilities the Spurs will have this season in fast break situations after Wembanyama got the steal and took it down the court until lobbing up an ally-oop to Jeremy Sohan from behind the 3-point line.

This was just the beginning of a great night from Sohan where he ended as the team’s leading scorer with 18 points on almost shooting 70% from the field. He went along to grab 11 boards as well and earned himself a double-double.

There was a lot of back and forth in the second quarter but it ended with Tre Jones hitting a floater off the glass at the buzzer to give the Spurs confidence going into halftime down 59-49.

San Antonio went into the 4th quarter with a two point lead which quickly evaporated as both team went back and forth retaking the lead down the stretch.

With a minute and 48 seconds left in the game, the Spurs were down by 7 points and got it down to 1 point before the Heat ultimately ended up pulling away and winning the game 120-117.

The newest addition to the Silver and Black Chris Paul ended the game with 13 points, which is the most he’s scored since joining the team.

San Antonio’s next game will be against the in-state rival Houston Rockets on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Toyota Center. The regular season gets underway Oct. 24.
