Spurs cruise to win over Guangzhou Loong Lions in preseason opener; rookie Carter Bryant scores 15 in debut

Victor Wembanyama (9 points, 7 assists, 10 rebounds) flirted with a triple-double in his first game action since his blood clot injury in the spring.

SAN ANTONIO — Carter Bryant scored 15 points in his NBA debut, a trio of other Spurs players each tallied 16 and Victor Wembanyama notched some highlight-reel blocks as San Antonio defeated the visiting Guangzhou Loong Lions, 119-88, for a preseason-opening win.

It was a smooth-sailing victory for San Antonio. The team got out to a double-digit lead after one quarter and didn’t look back, scoring 74 points by halftime. Bryant, the Spurs’ second first-round pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, shined in his team-high 23 minutes, going 6-for-11 from the field.

The Silver & Black limited the Lions to just 37.7% shooting from the floor while sporting their own mark of 53.8%, including making 15 of 38 from distance.

De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Jordan McLaughlin and Kelly Olynyk sat out.

Up next on the Spurs’ preseason slate: a road trip to Miami on Wednesday.
