“I truly believe in this group,” said Spurs guard Fox after signing his extension.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs reached an agreement with All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox on a four-year, $229 million contract extension.
The contract extends Fox’s tenure in San Antonio through the end of the 2029-30 season, answering an offseason question about the team’s willingness to try out the 3-guard lineup with Stephon Castle, Fox and rookie Dylan Harper.
The decision to keep Fox in San Antonio for the foreseeable future, combined with Victor Wembanyama’s rise, makes the Spurs a potential top destination for free agents and puts the team in a position to end its playoff drought as soon as next season.
“I truly believe in this group, and I truly believe this group can continue to gel together and continue to grow together, and for sure hang up more banners,” Fox said.
After he signed the deal, he spoke about his extension, including his thoughts on the city of San Antonio, the franchise legends, what fans can expect from him next season, possible titles in the future, and more.
Here’s what Fox had to say:
Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games with the Spurs last season. His season was cut short by injury. He had surgery in March to repair a tendon in his pinkie finger.
