Spurs fans, event goers warned of traffic delays amid I-35 construction project near Frost Bank Center

Travelers to the Frost Bank Center should plan for delays due to TxDOT’s major I‑35 construction project.

SAN ANTONIO — Guests traveling to the Frost Bank Center for upcoming games and events are being advised to plan ahead as the first stage of a major highway construction project begins nearby.

The Texas Department of Transportation has launched the initial phase of its I‑35 NEX South Project, which will bring construction activity along Interstate 35 between Interstate 410 South and North Walters Street.

Arena visitors are encouraged to allow extra travel time, check traffic conditions before leaving and consider alternate routes when heading to events. Drivers are also urged to use caution when traveling through active construction zones.

The first phase of construction began this month and is scheduled to continue through July 2026. According to TxDOT, most work will take place overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Disruptions during the early stage of the project are expected to be minimal, though intermittent lane closures may occur to allow crews to set up equipment and perform construction work.

Additional phases of the project are expected later this year and could result in further traffic adjustments. Officials say updates will be provided as new lane closures or route changes are confirmed.

For the latest information on the project, visitors can go to txdot.gov/35nex or follow the Texas Department of Transportation on X.
