Spurs fans hope pep rally can spark Game 3 win vs. Thunder

Fans gathered at Tower Park at Hemisfair ahead of Friday night’s tipoff at the Frost Bank Center.

With the Western Conference finals shifting to San Antonio, the Spurs are hoping home-court energy — starting with a Friday morning pep rally — will help them regain momentum against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Game 3 tips off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Frost Bank Center, where the Spurs will play in front of a home crowd after a tough loss Wednesday.

The Spurs earned home-court advantage in the series with a Game 1 win.

Before the game, fans fallied behind the team at a community pep rally at Tower Park at Hemisfair. The free event Friday morning was open to the public.

Hundreds of fans gathered to cheer on the team.

The pep rally included live music, free tacos for the first 700 guests and free playoff T-shirts while supplies lasted.

The Spurs hype squad led the crowd, and there were appearances by 1999 NBA champion Sean Elliott and Spurs play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey.

There was also a special appearance by Spurs legend Avery Johnson, another 1999 NBA champion, who was interviewed on stage.
