SAN ANTONIO — Former San Antonio Spurs head coach and current team President of Basketball Operations, Gregg Popovich, made a public appearance at Trinity University to speak to the community. Joining him on stage was Sean Elliott, the Spurs TV color commentator.
“A remarkable night at Trinity! Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich and San Antonio Spurs legend Sean Elliott joined Trinity HCAD students and Methodist Healthcare residents for an inspiring conversation on leadership, teamwork and culture. We’re proud to bring San Antonio icons and future healthcare leaders together on our campus,” posted Trinity University on social media.
The previous public appearance was when he and the team officially announced Mitch Johnson as the new head coach at a press conference. This comes after a stroke sidelined him for the 2024-25 season.
To honor the five-time NBA championship coach, the Spurs quietly hung a banner for him ahead of the start of the season with “Hall of Fame” (reflecting his 2023 induction), the number of wins (1,390) and five stars for each of his titles.
