CARTER BRYANT FUTURE DPOY?

Spurs rookie Carter Bryant has yet to play a single NBA regular-season game, but already he is garnering praise for his defense.

ESPN’s Tim Legler, co-host of All NBA Podcast with Adam Mares, put the rookie’s defense in focus when Legler made his bold claim: Carter is potentially a future NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner.

“I think Carter Bryant is eventually going to be the Defensive Player of the Year in this league. He was so much more athletic than the next closest guy in Las Vegas (Summer League),” said Legler.

That is a bold claim, especially with Victor Wembanyama on the roster, but the 19-year-old has shown flashes of what he can do defensively.

With the Spurs in Las Vegas, he recorded multiple steals and deflections, showcasing his athleticism in on-ball pressure against guards. He also held opponents to under 40% shooting.

Additionally, his 6’7″ frame, paired with a 7’0″ wingspan, enables him to guard multiple positions effectively.

The duo has also put Stephon Castle in the spotlight and cover the NBA weekly.
