‘Spurs Lady’ Sovia Lauriano has passed away

The beloved Spurs fan was unwavering in her love and support for not only the Silver and Black, but the City of San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — Sovia Lauriano, the “Spurs Lady” known around the city for her “radiating pride and love for San Antonio” and its hometown NBA team, has passed away, according to reports.

Lauriano spent decades cheering on the Silver & Black in her customized Spurs gear and eye-catching headware. Her unwavering support for not only the hometown team, but also the City of San Antonio, made her a fan-favorite in her own right.

The team took to social media Sunday to pay tribute to Lauriano, saying she wasn’t just a fan but also a “friend to many on staff, a devoted season-ticket member, a bringer of breakfast tacos, a make of intricate game night costumes and a familiar face in the community.”

As just one example of her devotion to the team, she drove thousands of miles from San Antonio to Uncasville, CT, as she was determined to witness head coach Gregg Popovich’s induction into the Hall of Fame.

And when she had her chance to meet Coach Pop, she could not contain her excitement. As she approached the Hall of Famer, she squealed and smiled from ear to ear while explaining how far she’d come.

“We drove two thousand miles, four days to get here from San Antonio,” Lauriano said to Popovich.

Popovich joked with her asking, if she stopped but ultimately stood up to embrace the Spurs Lady for her devotion.

“I need a hug,” said Popovich.

“I need a hug too,” Lauriano said in excitement. “I love you soo much Pop.”
