Spurs listed with top-3 odds at landing Pelicans’ Murphy III; San Antonio rumored to be interested in Jose Alvarado

The NBA Trade Deadline is fast approaching. Will the Spurs make a move?

SAN ANTONIO — It’s that time of the NBA season when the Trade Deadline is right around the corner.

The San Antonio Spurs are often involved in trade rumors, with Trey Murphy III from the Pelicans frequently mentioned.

And according to oddsmaker Bookies, the Spurs are in the top-3 landing spots for Murphy III if New Orleans wants to trade.

According to Bookies, the Spurs are third with +900 odds of trading for the Pelicans player. Leading the odds pack is the Pelicans with -110 odds of keeping him in uniform.

While the chances of a trade are high, he would strengthen the Spurs’ playoff run by providing essential scoring, defense, and three-point shooting.

Moreover, New Orleans is reportedly unlikely to trade Murphy III and has repeatedly signaled he is practically untouchable or off-limits in trades. Of course, if a deal is too good to pass up, Murphy III could be had, but at what cost?

Reports indicate the Pelicans are asking for multiple first-round picks and young talent.

San Antonio has plenty of draft picks (firsts and seconds), expiring player contracts, and young players to offer the New Orleans, but is it worth disrupting the proven winning roster with the team sitting second in the West?

SPURS INTERESTED IN JOSE ALVARADO?

According to The Athletic, the Spurs are among the teams expressing interest in Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado, but the report also notes that the guard wants to remain in New Orleans.

League sources have told The Athletic that the Knicks, Spurs and Houston Rockets are among the teams to express interest in Alvarado. However, those familiar with Alvarado’s thinking have said his preference is to remain in New Orleans.

This is interesting considering the Spurs have an abundance of guard depth.

Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox, rookie Dylan Harper, and Jordan McLaughlin make up the Spurs’ guard corps, and adding Alvarado would not make sense.

He’d likely get buried on the bench and not see much playing time in San Antonio as opposed to the Pelicans or elsewhere.

All in all, this might have just been the Spurs doing their due diligence and looking to add more guard firepower.  He’s averaging 7.9 points per game, including 2.9 rebounds and shooting 42% from the field this season.

What do you think, Spurs fans? Despite the reported Pelicans’ stance on Murphy III, should the Spurs go all in for him? What about Alvarado? Let us know on X at @KENS5 and @JeffGSpursZone.
