Spurs’ Mamukelashvili’s friend Flavor Flav crashes his postgame interview; Harrison Barnes named the NBA Community Assist Award winner

“My man is on fire,” shouted Flavor Flav following Mamu’s career night against the Knicks.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs‘ Sandro Mamukelashvili had a career-high scoring night versus the Knicks with 34 points. That offensive outburst was the most scored points in less than 20 minutes of action in NBA history.

Mamu and his teammates celebrated after the game, but he first spoke to FanDuel about his incredible evening when his good friend, musician Flavor Flav, crashed his interview.

“I don’t care what anybody says! My man is on fire,” shouted Flavor Flav midcourt.

The Spurs big man explained that the two struck up a friendship and that Flav wanted to come to San Antonio to celebrate his birthday and watch Mamu play.

“I’ve known him for a long time. We got really close on FaceTime, and sometimes we talk about stuff. We went to New York last summer, and he came to my first (NBA) Summer League. He was my financial advisor’s friend, and since then, we just kicked it off,” said Sandro.

Overall, it was a special night for Mamu as his father and brother also attended.

As for his incredible performance, Mamu remained humble but could not contain his excitement for what he did on an NBA court.

“I’m trying to get better. I’m trying to establish myself. I’m trying to show everybody that I belong. And you know, I’ll just keep taking strides towards that,” he said. “I’m just so happy.”

BARNES NAMED NBA COMMUNITY ASSIST AWARD FEBRUARY WINNER

The NBA announced Harrison Barnes as the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for February. Barnes and his wife, Brittany, made a $250,000 donation to AlamoPROMISE. This program provides the cost of tuition and fees for eligible students in Bexar County, eliminating financial barriers to higher education and making college a reality.

Barnes was also recognized for his contribution to bringing a newly renovated basketball court and playground to Davis White Northeast Neighborhood Park as part of the Play ATX initiative in Austin, Texas.

Barnes received the David Robinson trophy ahead of Wednesday night’s game versus the Knicks, and the NBA will donate $10,000 to the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum.
