Spurs mentioned in Trey Murphy III trade rumor; Austin Spurs complete trade with Iowa

The Spurs reportedly show interest in Pelicans’ Trey Murphy III, but the Pelicans reject trade calls.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs have been mentioned in a trade rumor involving Pelicans’ Trey Murphy III; however, the report also claims the team is not actively trying to trade him.

According to Jake Fischer of “The Stein Line,” the Spurs (and Warriors) “registered trade interest” in the forward.

“Sources say that the Warriors have a strong affinity for Trey Murphy III and have made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer. Yet sources say that the Pelicans, to be clear, have batted away calls for the 25-year-old, valuing him highly. The two-way forward will be playing on a contract in 2025-26 — at precisely $25 million — as desirable as his talent. Another team known to have registered trade interest in Murphy, sources say, is San Antonio.”

The 6’8″ wing signed a four-year, $112 million extension with the Pelicans, and it is no surprise the Spurs would be interested in adding him to the roster.

Murphy is a solid perimeter shooter, with defensive versatility and the ability to create his own shot. He also connected on a career 38.3% three-point shooting (floor spacing) and averaged a career-high 21.2 points per game last season.

AUSTIN SPURS COMPLETE TRADE WITH IOWA WOLVES

The Austin Spurs completed a trade with the Iowa Wolves, acquiring the 13th overall pick in the 2025 NBA G League Draft in exchange for the returning player rights of Luke Avdalovic, Justin Smith, a second-round draft pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft, and a 2026 International draft pick.

Avdalovic, 6-5/200, appeared in 80 games for the Spurs over two seasons (2023-25), averaging 4.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game.
