The San Antonio Spurs may pursue Celtics free agent Luke Kornet to add depth at center.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs‘ offseason is in full swing, and rumors and possible signings are coming in.
Here is the latest Spurs offseason news:
The Spurs are expected to pursue Celtics free agent big man Luke Kornet, according to Jake L. Fischer.
“Another center target, sources say, that rival executives expect San Antonio to pursue: Boston’s Luke Kornet.”
Kornet would be an ideal backup for Victor Wembanyama and add depth to the team’s big man corps.
He averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in 73 games during the 2024-25 regular season with the Celtics. He shot 67.0% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line this past season.
San Antonio continues to be on reports of the next NBA home for 76ers’ free agent Guerschon Yabusele.
According to Marc Stein, the Spurs are a “threat” to sign the big man away from Philadelphia.
“Multiple well-placed observers are describing San Antonio as the foremost threat to sign Yabusele away from the 76ers, but I’m also told that Philadelphia has not yet abandoned hope of convincing him to stay. The Spurs certainly boast a persuasive recruiter in the Yabusele chase — his Olympic teammate Victor Wembanyama.”
The big man would help the Spurs’ need for added size to pair with Victor Wembanyama, and he is his fellow French countryman. The 76ers do have Yabusele’s bird rights, but San Antonio has the cap space to entice the big man to come to the Spurs.
Yabusele (16th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft) averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and shot 50 percent from the field last season.
The Spurs have reportedly extended two-way qualifying offers to Harrison Ingram and Riley Minix.
Both Ingram (five games played with San Antonio) and Minix (one game in San Antonio) spent the bulk of the 2024-25 season with the Austin Spurs.
With Austin, Ingram posted 12.2 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game. Minix posted 12.7 points and connected on 44% shooting from the three-point line.
Spurs free agent Sandro Mamukelashvili is being named as a possible target for Greek club Panathinaikos, according to a report.
Mamu averaged 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game over 61 games last season.
He is a fan favorite; however, with the Spurs needing help at backup center and reports indicating that the Spurs are eyeing free-agent big men this offseason, he might be on the outside looking in.
