San Antonio held off Miami on the road, in a matchup that saw younger Spurs players gain some close-game experience.
MIAMI — The San Antonio Spurs stayed undefeated in the preseason, winning Wednesday night in Miami as Devin Vassell scored 12 points and grabbed six boards in his first game action of the team’s tune-up period.
Keldon Johnson scored a team-high 19 points while Julian Champagnie went 5 of 7 from deep and finished with 15 points. Victor Wembanyama (12 points, six rebounds) and newly acquired guard Adam Flagler (11 points) rounded out San Antonio’s double-digit scorers.
The Spurs shot just under 47% from the floor, a few points better than the Heat, en route to a 112-107 win. San Antonio is now 2-0 in the preseason, following Monday’s exhibition matchup with China’s Guangzhou Loong Lions.
Wemby collected another ooh-and-ahh moment when he caught a high-flying dish from Flagler and slammed down a reverse dunk.
“Victor’s a really good shooter,” head coach Mitch Johnson said ahead of the game. “He’s obviously very impactful around the rim, and I think it’s just a constant conversation with him and our team of what’s the game calling for at that time.”
